Although this guitar's unsigned label proclaims that it is a 1976 J. P. Contreras Perez, as Juan Pedro Contreras Perez was born in 1965, his father, Pedro Contreras Valbuena (b. 1937) is more likely responsible for it.  Juan Pedro's father  apprenticed with Jose Ramirez III at age 14, and became one of Ramirez oficiales (luthiers). Jose Ramirez III discouraged his employees from moonlighting. Felix Manzanero, another of his oficiales, when Jose Ramirez found out he was building guitars on the side, was told to choose, he could build guitars on his own, or work for Ramirez, but not both. Juan Pedro in fact did learn to make guitars with his father--who later had a workshop at calle San Maximiliano No 38 in Madrid.  Juan Pedro seems to have learned his craft well, as his guitars have been bought by Manolo SanLucar. He, however, builds under the name Pedro C. Valbuena. In 1996, Juan Pedro went to work in the factory of Manuel Rodriguez and Sons in Illescas, Toledo, and continued working the for Manuel Rodriguez and sons when factory moved to Esquivias, Toledo. He is currently listed in the directory of guitar makers in Madrid at Calle Dehesa de Vicalvaro, no 39, 2C.

Regardless of who made it, this is a great flamenco guitar. The seller says, "I've seem many Ramirez flamencos, and this is a good one.  The cedar is sweet, and it has excellent low end crunch.  It's just a good guitar."  He also notes that when he let's one of his friends borrow it, he usually makes a $100 in tips, but then again his own guitar is a piece of #!&#, and this guitar makes him sound wonderful.
